It seems that the Jedi archives have decided to erase several traces of the existence of the remake of the cult classic Knights of the Old Republic.
Remember, this was announced, to everyone’s surprise, in 2021 during a PlayStation Showcase, with a release window planned for… 2023. It was a question of bringing the gameplay up to date with more combat. dynamic, and of course offer a profound facelift for this legendary title from Bioware, released in 2003. But in recent days, several mentions of a project lost in the twists and turns of development (like a certain Star Wars Eclipse) have an unfortunate tendency to disappear.
A development that has fallen to the Dark Side?
It’s been two years now since we had an official announcement regarding the remake of Knights of the Old Republicanother cult game from Bioware after the saga Baldur’s Gate. It owed this iconic status to a captivating story in a then unexplored era of the universe of Star Wars. All directed by Cornelian choices that can elevate us towards the Light Side as well as make us sink into the Dark Side… with our companions.
The idea of a remake around this masterpiece was therefore appealing, in order to modernize a title which is obviously 20 years old. But since its announcement in 2021, practically no news. Except for reports that the project passed into the hands of another studio (originally Aspyr, then Saber Interactive). A sign like any other that its development is struggling.

Worse still, the first announcement trailer for the remake was recently released for private viewing, therefore disappearing from YouTube searches. Same observation regarding the tweets relating to the latter, which were purely and simply erased from the star map. The reason given by Sony would be that the video in question contained an expired music license.
Let us also remember that this remake is not published by Eletronic Arts, but by Embracer Group. The American giant has in fact lost the exclusive rights to adapt the license for some time now. Star Wars in video games. Hence the burgeoning of projects from other studios, such as Outlaws at Ubisoft or Eclipse at Quantic Dream (which is also experiencing serious difficulties).
It should be remembered that the publisher Embracer Group has recently been experiencing major financial health problems. The group has in fact had to cancel several games under development, and is even considering separating from large studios under its supervision, such as Gearbox Software (Borderlands).
Given the state of progress, for lack of proof to the contrary, almost non-existent of the remake of Knights of the Old Republic, it would not be surprising if this project also bore the brunt of Embracer Group’s woes. Even if Star Wars taught us that we must know how to keep hope, things seem compromised for the moment…
