Butcher competition: – When it comes to sausage, Lower Austria is the best!

At the international meat and sausage competition, Lower Austria’s master butchers once again performed strongly and won a total of 232 gold, silver and bronze medals. 594 medals were awarded in the entire competition.

With 153 of a total of 419 gold medals, Lower Austria’s butchers ranked alone at the top of the international specialist competition for meat and sausage products. In the competition organized by the Federal Butchers’ Guild in Klagenfurt (Carinthia), they achieved more than twice as many medals as the runner-up in a country comparison. More precisely: The “hosts” took second place with 63 gold medals, Tyrol followed with 56,700 model butchers. In addition, the products of the 20 local model companies received 62 silver and 17 bronze medals. “The quality and creativity of our butchers is impressive,” emphasized Jochen Flicker, Lower Austria’s chairman of the trade and craft division. Participants from Australia, Italy, Germany and France also took part in the international competition. A total of 700 products were tasted and evaluated by the professional jury. An honorary award for Lower Austria. Of six special honorary awards – for which you had to achieve the highest possible number of points with 12 products – one went to Lower Austria. The award went to Seidl Fleischerhandwerks GmbH from Neunkirchen. In the entire competition, 419 gold, 140 silver and 35 bronze medals were awarded. There are currently 259 butchers in Lower Austria who are currently training around 50 apprentices in the professions of meat processors and meat sellers. State Parliament President Karl Wilfing also did not hold back in his praise for the domestic industry: “The Lower Austrian butcher trade is top and need not fear any comparison internationally. Quite the opposite. Our companies and their employees do great things every day.”
