On the occasion of the theatrical release of the film dedicated to Buzz Lightyear, test your knowledge of the character!
After making thousands of children dream, Buzz Lightyear is back at the cinema in a film dedicated to him. The feature film from Pixar studios offers us the film that young Andy saw before claiming the space ranger toy from his parents.
In this great adventure directed by Angus MacLane, Buzz is stranded with his commander and his crew on a hostile planet located 4.2 million light-years from Earth. He will then attempt to bring everyone back to Earth safe and sound.
From his first screen appearance in John Lasseter’s 1995 film Toy Story to this spin-off centered on the life of the hero who inspired the toy, test your knowledge of Buzz Lightyear.

- This Buzz Lightyear is different from the toy that fans are familiar with. Andrew Stanton, the screenwriter of the films Toy Storyentrusts : “Usually he makes us laugh. But this film reminds us that he was first a character who aroused admiration. What was funny was that Buzz the toy did not know he was a toy. Conversely, the real Buzz is very serious and ambitious”.
- To bring this young version of Buzz Lightyear to life, Disney chose Chris Evansthe Captain America from Marvel. The actor had the heavy task of succeeding Tim Allenmythical voice of the space ranger since the first Toy Story. Evans reacted to this announcement on his Instagram account:
“I didn’t understand what that meant because to me, Buzz Lightyear is Tim Allen and no one can match his performance. I needed to know how this story was different and why it was worth watching. I can tell you two things with absolute certainty. I couldn’t help but smile throughout the pitch. Up to the ears. And everyone can have peace of mind. Believe me when I tell you that the Pixar teams really know what they are doing. This movie is going to be very special, I really can’t put my excitement into words.” In the French version it is François Civil who doubles the hero.
- Angus MacLane was keen to move away from the Toy Story saga aesthetic, largely because the story takes place in space, 4.2 million light-years from Earth. “While this film alludes to some sci-fi classics, it is above all a tribute to cinema in general. The slightly retro aesthetic is inspired by films from the 1970s and 1980s, such as Star Wars, Due to Assassination or Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Japanese cartoons of the time. I wanted a tactile and very contrasting side reminiscent of the French New Wave.”
- For the hostile planet T’Kani Prime, the team opted for a minimalist setting, with familiar elements, such as trees and lakes, so as not to interfere with the plot. As production designer Tim Evatt explains, T’Kani Prime is smaller than Earth and is very different:
“It is a static planet, which does not rotate on its own axis and therefore always presents the same side to the sun. Consequently, the other half is permanently plunged into darkness. But the illuminated side still has a climate, with clouds, blue skies or heavy fog.”
