The German bike manufacturer Winora has just launched its new high-end electric bike: the Winora iRide Pure. An electric bike with an elegant and minimalist design, which hides its game well thanks to the latest Bosch electric motor.
Winora is undoubtedly not the best-known bicycle brand in France. However, the German manufacturer has a century of experience in the field. Specializing in its beginnings in children’s bicycles (non-existent at the beginning of the 20th century), the brand has focused for several years on high-end electric bicycles, with compact models, cargo bikes, but also urban models. . Winora’s signature is easily recognizable: elegant and discreet designs, emphasis on driving comfort and generous autonomy.
It is by remaining solid on these bases that Winora has just extended its catalog with a newcomer: the Winora iRide Pure. An urban electric bike that looks exactly like a mechanical bike, but which hides the latest Bosch motor, the Performance SX, in its crankset. With the Winora iRide Pure, Winora aims to appeal to an urban audience wanting to own a bike that is beautiful, powerful and above all, one that you want to use every day.
Minimalist design and comfort at the center of attention
It’s hard to guess that the Winora iRide Pure is an electric bike at first glance. Winora worked on the design to make it as simple and elegant as possible. A frame with pure lines, which goes to the essentials, a curved handlebar and integrated mudguards (in the same color as the frame) finish giving an urban touch to the whole. No unnecessary gadgets on this bike: Winora aims above all for practicality and driving pleasure.
To ensure comfortable driving in all circumstances, Winora has designed its iRide Pure to be as easy to handle as possible. Thanks to its aluminum frame, this electric bike maintains a moderate weight of 23 kg. At the front, a small suspension with 25 mm of travel helps smooth out the roughness of the road. The fork is also very light, to make maneuvering the bike easier when you put your foot down.
The Winora iRide Pure is also available in two configurations: with a High frame (or closed, for large sizes) and a Mid frame (or semi-open, for small sizes). Four colors are available upon purchase: Black Mat (black), Red Velvet Matt (purple), Chrystal Red Gloss (red) and Nile Blue Matt (sea green).
While Winora insists that her new bike is free of unnecessary gadgets, there is no shortage of practical accessories. The lighting, located under the handlebars and on the rear mudguard, is directly powered by the bike’s main battery. A luggage rack is present as standard at the rear of the bike, and eyelets are present at the front to add an additional one. Finally, classic on this type of bike, but always appreciable, the kickstand is installed as standard.
In the crankset: the new motor from Bosch
Despite appearances, the Winora iRide Pure is indeed an electric bike. A removable 400 Wh battery is hidden in the frame. Winora has done things well: this battery only weighs two kg, it has a textile strap for easy transport and the battery cover is the same color as the frame.
Above all, this battery ensures up to 100 km of autonomy in economical mode. It’s what fuels the hidden star of this new bike: the Bosch performance Line SX motor which is located in the pedal board. The strong point of this engine released at the end of last year is that it is small, light (only 2 kg) and powerful.
Bosch is today the reference in electric bicycle motors. The performance Line SX proves it: 55 Nm of torque, peak power at 600 watts and silent use. This engine is the guarantee of being able to swallow the slightest slope without problem and of starting quickly at red lights.
Above all, it is a source of additional driving comfort. Bosch motors are designed to give a natural pedaling feel. Above the famous 25 km/h – the legal limit for electric assistance in France – the pedaling resistance is reduced by 50%. In other words, the Winora iRide Pure is indeed an electrically assisted bicycle which provides the sensation of riding a bicycle and not an electric scooter which does not give its name.
Another advantage for the Winora iRide Pure of having a Bosch motor: compatibility with Bosch Smart System. Thanks to this, the user can connect the motor of their bicycle via the Bluetooth of their smartphone, which opens up many possibilities. It is thus possible to benefit from OTA updates (Over the Air, that is to say without having to go through a cable), to adjust the power or acceleration delivered by the motor or to add a Kiox screen to your bike. In a word: this allows you to connect the bike to your smartphone in order to personalize it more precisely.
Winora iRide Pure: from 3,399 euros
The Winora iRide Pure is available today on the official Winora website. This new bike is available in two versions.
- The R5F version: it benefits from a Shimano Nexus transmission in the hub, belt, with 5 speeds. This version, sold for 3,699 euros, has the advantage of requiring very little mechanical maintenance.
- The X10 version: it benefits from a standard Shimano Cues transmission, with derailleur and chain, and 10 speeds. This version, sold for 2,999 euros, will require a little more maintenance (lubrication of the chain, for example), but nothing insurmountable if you already own a bike.
In both cases, the Winora iRide Pure is available with a semi-closed or open frame and always has hydraulic braking.
