It was expected, but on Thursday, Google finally took the plunge by renaming its chatbot Bard to Gemini, with a paid subscription launched in parallel in the United States, and expected in France.

Google Bard is no more, say “hello” to Gemini! A few days ago, we explained to you that the Mountain View firm was preparing to transform its conversational robot Bard into Gemini, and this has now been done since Thursday February 8. The latter undoubtedly definitively takes the name of the artificial intelligence which powers it, but this change is not the only one to be noted. Google took the opportunity to launch a paid subscription for its AI, like ChatGPT Plus, which offers rather interesting advantages, such as the integration of Gemini into Gmail.

Gemini takes its place and takes the opportunity to be available in a paid version

Formerly called Bard, Gemini is available in French, English and 40 other languages, to help its users summarize a text, correct coding or even prepare for job interviews or love letters. The free plan does not differ greatly from that of ChatGPT in practice, but Google is now bringing another proposition to the public.

The American giant has just launched “Google One AI Premium”, a new paid plan which provides access to a better version of Gemini, as well as other features and services, such as storage space, for the Cloud part. The name “Google One” is therefore not insignificant.

For $19.99 per month, subscribers can access Gemini Advanced, an offering that includes the Ultra version of Gemini, whose capabilities “ surpass the best results in the field » and human experts in MMLU, that is to say massive understanding of multitasking language, to popularize it in French.

A paid offer with a super Gemini, storage, AI in Gmail and Google tools, plus a mobile application!

But that’s not all ! In addition to a much more powerful version of Gemini, subscribers will have access to 2 TB (2,000 GB) of storage space (an envelope usually offered, alone, at 9.99 euros/dollars per month). Add to that the upcoming integration of Gemini into the Gmail environment and into Google’s application suite, and you will find a rather honest solution at around twenty dollars per month.

Problem, Gemini Advanced is currently only available in English. “ We will expand it to more languages over time », Promises Sissie Hsiao, the boss of Gemini Experiences for Google. Note that, like OpenAI for ChatGPT, Google will offer a Gemini mobile application. The company has started its deployment on Android and iOS. It should take a form identical to that of ChatGPT, therefore very easy to use.

Generation of images and music, Google completes its range of AI tools

We will also not forget that Google launched, at the beginning of the month, its ImageFX tool, available in Google Labs, which allows images to be generated from simple queries, based on keywords. A new competitor to OpenAI’s Midjourney and DALL-E 3.

The principle also applies to another tool still in development and testing at Google. With MusicFX, you can, from a simple descriptive sentence, generate the music of your choice, with a duration of 30 to 40 seconds, for now.

Google is fighting to stay in the race for artificial intelligence, and will not fail to keep us informed of its next advances, which seem promising to us.

Google Bard

  • A powerful generation model
  • A knowledge base updated in real time
  • Free and integrated into the Google ecosystem

Google Bard stands out as an AI chatbot intrinsically connected to the web from which it draws the majority of its knowledge. The main advantage of the service is that it is completely free and offers image recognition. The gradual integration into the Google ecosystem should make it a most capable chatbot for a variety of tasks.
