Bye Barbie, Hi Polly!: Mattel is shooting ‘Polly Pocket’ with ‘Emily in Paris’ star Lily Collins

BARBIE FILM 2023: IN THE SUMMER OF 2023 THE MOST FAMOUS DOLL WILL OPEN THE GATES TO HER WORLD – THAT’S ALL KNOWN SO FAR

After the great success of the “Barbie” film, toy manufacturer Mattel naturally only wants one thing: more! In addition to the “Barbie” sequels, a “Polly Pocket” film is now also planned.

  • What worked with Barbie will also work with Polly Pocket – at least that’s what Mattel is counting on.
  • The huge success of “Barbie” is set to serve as a springboard for another doll movie, this time starring “Emily in Paris” star Lily Collins.
  • The screenplay is by Lena Dunham (“Girls”) and has been described as great.

In just one week, “Barbie” managed to gross nearly $500 million worldwide. It surpassed even the most optimistic of expectations, and it’s understandable that Mattel and Warner Bros. are hugging with joy. Now, of course, Hollywood is looking to the future and is confident that this sensational success can easily be repeated.

Variety spoke to Mattel CEO Ynon Kreiz, who described the “Barbie” brand as very diverse and resilient. This offers the potential for an entire Barbie film universe that capitalizes on the popularity of the box office hit, but may be spin-offs rather than direct sequels.

Of the numerous other film projects that Mattel is planning in the coming years, “Polly Pocket” is now being given priority, after all, the aim is to appeal to a similar target group as with “Barbie”. “Girls” star Lena Dunham has already written a screenplay and is set to direct it, while Lily Collins (“Emily in Paris”) will be seen as Polly Pocket.

Due to the actors’ strike and the fourth season of “Emily in Paris” still to be shot, there is no concrete schedule for the “Polly Pocket” movie. However, before the year 2025, it is unlikely that Polly Pocket’s small world of dolls will make the leap to the big screen. Until then, you can of course continue to content yourself with “Barbie”, either in the cinema or on Blu-Ray from October.
