  • After an accident in Laax GR – in which a 17-year-old apprentice died while working on a cable car – the Graubünden public prosecutor’s office opened proceedings for negligent homicide.
  • Two people of the mountain railway operation are accused.
  • At the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency, the public prosecutor’s office did not disclose who it was. She thus confirmed information from “Blick”.

A 17-year-old apprentice was hit by a cabin drive while working on a support of the Laax-Crap Sogn Gion cable car on Monday. He first hit the cabin and then fell about 40 meters down. The rescue service of the mountain railways took care of the casualty.

The crew of an AP3 rescue helicopter could only determine the death of the 17-year-old. The Swiss Safety Investigation Center (Sust) is also currently investigating the accident.

Second procedure against mountain railway operation

Also, after an incident in January 2022, a second case against four employees of the same company for “removing or not installing safety devices” is pending. This was confirmed by the public prosecutor’s office on request.

At that time, a gondola of the same cable car had an accident because apparently too heavy loads had been attached. These touched the ground while driving. The gondola driver immediately braked the gondola. Some passengers fell. A woman slightly injured her finger. The passengers were then transported back to the valley and cared for.
