CAC40: at a standstill, the fact of the day is the Euro at parity at $1

(CercleFinance.com) – The Paris stock market is still at a standstill: the CAC40 starts the week with a nil and blank score (stability at 6.417), the index oscillating for more than 8 hours by 0.4% around this pivot threshold.
Red would dominate without the vigor of Renault (+4%) and Axa and Alstom (+3%).
The slightly higher opening of Wall Street does not change anything: the S&P500 grabs +0.3%, the Dow Jones +0.6% (a little better than at the opening, but in line with pre-opening expectations).
The European markets seem to be opting for the rise since the E-Stoxx50 gains +0.5%, but it is above all thanks to Frankfurt (+0.6%) which is recovering after a production figure up surprisingly by + 0.6% in September.

The new week which is opening promises to be rather calm on the ‘stats’ front, offering investors a welcome respite in order to digest the recent announcements on the economy and the future evolution of monetary policies.

The main quantified meeting of the week will be set for Thursday, with the publication of inflation in the United States (analysts expect a CPI up by +0.7% for the month of October compared to to September, which should set it at 8% on an annual basis).

The highlight will be above all political with the ‘Midterm’ elections, the results of which will be known overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday.

Recent polls suggest that Democrats, undermined by soaring inflation in the country, could lose their majority in the House of Representatives.

On the results side, the last laggards of the results season will unveil their accounts this week, starting with Disney tomorrow, which will be imitated in this by a few second knives like DuPont or Palantir.

Note this Monday the continued rise of the Euro which is flirting with parity against the $ (+0.4% at 1/1) while the flattest calm reigns over the bond market: only T-Bonds posted a symbolic spread of +2 basis points at 4.18%.
