CAC40: continues to rebound pending US inflation

After five sessions of increases, the Paris Stock Exchange continues its upward movement at the opening, the context being however one of caution before the publication of several important economic indicators, including the highly anticipated inflation figures in the United States. The CAC40 index rose by 0.4% to 6358 points.

After suffering two weeks of severe correction in August, the stock markets came back to life in September thanks to a drop in inflation expectations, due in particular to the ebb in oil prices.

Investors remain torn between the temptation to make a few bargains and persistent risk aversion against a backdrop of recessionary threats and the tightening of monetary policies by the major central banks.

The US Consumer Price Indicator (CPI) for August, which drops at 2:30 p.m., will be closely watched amid fears of prolonged inflation that could rekindle speculation on the timing of any hikes. Federal Reserve rate.

The CPI compass, especially in its basic version (‘core’) which excludes the most volatile components, could however hold less pleasant surprises.

“If core inflation were to rise again, this would reverse a series of three months of decline and would put a little more pressure on the Fed to toughen its tone at its meeting on September 19”, warns La Financire de l’ Chessboard.

While waiting for US inflation, the market will learn during the morning of the ZEW index of investor sentiment in Germany, which could fuel fears about European growth.
