(CercleFinance.com) – The Paris Stock Exchange ends the day with a loss of 0.69%, at 7,609 points, penalized by Airbus (-2.8%), Bouygues (-2.7%) and Renault (- 2.3%), before a second part of the week which promises to be busier.
Investors will therefore be watching with great attention on Friday the release of the PCE price index, a measure of inflation particularly monitored by the Fed.
Market operators will also be paying attention to tomorrow’s first televised debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump ahead of the presidential election in November.
In France, the good rating of the RN and the New Popular Front (the gap is narrowing according to the latest polls) as the first round of the legislative elections approaches on Sunday still contributes to fueling a certain climate of nervousness.
“Elections always remain a point of attention but, in the absence of new information and changes in the polls, this has little immediate effect on the market,” explains Christopher Dembik, investment strategy advisor at Pictet AM.
In the meantime, investors learned this morning of an erosion of household confidence in France in June.
Thus, at 89, the indicator which summarizes it, calculated from household responses (mainly received before the 10th of the month), drops by one point and remains well below its long-term average (100 between January 1987 and December 2023).
In the bond compartment, a slight deterioration in the spread (+2.3 points) between the yield of French OATs and that of German Bunds is observed: at +74 basis points with a 10-year Bund at 2.4360% (+2.5 points) and OATs of the same maturity at 3.175% (+4.8 points).
On the American market, the yield on ten-year Treasury bonds is trending more clearly, towards 4.305% (+6.8 pts).
On the energy side, crude oil prices remain on an upward trend pending the publication this afternoon of figures from the American Energy Information Agency (EIA).
A barrel of North Sea Brent fell 0.4% to $84.5.
The Dollar, boosted by its sharply increased yield, gains another 0.3% against the euro which falls towards $1.068/E and returns to test its floors in force since June 15.
In French company news, bioMérieux announced on Wednesday that it had obtained special authorization from the American FDA as well as a so-called ‘CLIA’ exemption for its latest test to detect the most common respiratory viruses, including influenza, and strep throat.
Atos announces that it has received from the representative committee of its bondholders (SteerCo) a revised global financial restructuring proposal taking into account the decision of Onepoint, Butler Industries and Econocom to withdraw from discussions on June 25, 2024.
