CAC40: falls on contact with 7000 pts, stable weekly


(CercleFinance.com) – The Paris Stock Exchange ended the session with a decline of 1.42%, to 7003 points, almost at its lowest of the day. The Parisian index was particularly penalized by the marked declines in Worldline (-4.4%), Eurofins Scientific (-4.1%) and Alstom (-3.9%).

In weekly comparison, the CAC40 nevertheless remains practically in balance, even gaining an anecdotal 0.09%.

At the start of a weekend which promises to be particularly tense on a geopolitical level, the price of a barrel of Brent jumped +3.7% in London, and is approaching $90 (+6, 2% on the week)

However, the bond markets do not seem to reflect any ‘risk-off’ in relation to the risk of conflagration (Iran is nevertheless targeted in numerous declarations by American officials): our OATs and Bunds erase -4 basis points to 3,310 % and 2.743% respectively but US T-Bonds increase their lead (-8Pts towards 4.63%).

On the statistics front, American consumer confidence deteriorated significantly in October, according to the monthly survey from the University of Michigan (UMich) which published an index of 63 in preliminary estimate, compared to 68 .1 in September.

For comparison, Jefferies only anticipated an index of 67 for the current month. Ultimately more marked than expected, this decline reflects the deterioration of both the sub-index of current economic conditions, to 66.7 (compared to 71.4), and that of consumer expectations, to 60.7 (compared to 66 ).

Another closely watched figure, the Department of Labor announced that import prices in the United States had increased by 0.1% in September.
A reassuring figure after the jump of +0.6% in August… for their part, export prices increased by 0.7% last month, after having climbed by 1.1% the previous month .

Overall, over the last 12 months, American import prices showed a fall of 1.7% in raw data (-0.8% excluding petroleum products), and those for exports contracted by 4.1 % (-3.8% excluding agricultural products) in September.

In France, inflation remained stable in September (at 4.9% at an annual rate) despite the sharp rise in fuel prices, somewhat tempered by TotalEnergies’ ‘1.99E’ operation.
According to Eurostat, CVS industrial production contracted by 5.1% in the Eurozone and by 4.4% in the EU (between August 2022 and August 2023).

The quarterly ball began in the United States with the publication of the results of Wells Fargo, Citigroup and even BlackRock.

In securities news in Paris, Alstom indicates that the rating agency Moody’s decided on October 12 to confirm its long-term issuer rating at ‘Baa3’, but to lower its credit outlook from ‘stable’ to ‘negative’.

On the occasion of a nine-month preliminary publication, the supplier to the pharmaceutical industry Sartorius Stedim Biotech reduced its forecasts for the year 2023, both in terms of turnover and current EBITDA margin : this is the second ‘warning’ of the year and is punished by a fall of -16.5%.

On the occasion of the state visit to France this week by the President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh, Thales Alenia Space announces the signing of an agreement to build a Mongolian national satellite telecommunications system.

The group will be responsible for building a very high-performance Ku-band satellite, called Chinggis Sat, which will provide high-speed internet connectivity throughout the country, including in rural white areas and for the benefit of nomadic populations.

Finally, Lagardère achieved a turnover of €5,914 million as of September 30, 2023, i.e. +18.1% in published data and +15.3% in comparable data. Turnover for the third quarter of 2023 stands at €2,213 million, or +11.7% in published data and +9.6% in comparable data.
