CAC40: in green before a busy week


(CercleFinance.com) – The Paris Stock Exchange rose a little more than 0.6% this morning, around 6,840 points, notably driven by Teleperformance (+3.5%), and Alstom (+2.7%) .

While the results season got to the heart of the matter last week, the week which begins still promises to be very lively in terms of company quarterly reports.

At this stage almost half of the S&P 500 companies have already published their quarterly results and 78% of them have exceeded the consensus, according to data published by FactSet.

The week will also be punctuated by the meeting of the American Federal Reserve, which should confirm its pause on rates in view of the confirmed slowdown in inflation.

The monetary policy decisions of the Bank of Japan (BoJ) tomorrow and the Bank of England (BoE) on Thursday will also be closely watched by the markets.

The macroeconomic agenda for the coming days also looks busy with the first estimates of economic growth in the euro zone in the third quarter and inflation for the month of October in the euro zone, expected tomorrow.

But the highlight of the week will be the American employment figures excluding the agricultural sector for the month of October, which will be released on Friday.

Economists expect only 190,000 job creations last month, a clear slowdown compared to the 336,000 jobs in September, due to the impact of the strike launched by the UAW union.

In the meantime, investors were able to take note of Germany’s GDP in the 3rd quarter. This fell by 0.1% in volume compared to the previous quarter, according to CVS-CJO data from Destatis, after an increase of 0.1% in the second quarter and stagnation in the first.

Investors will also keep a close eye on the bond compartment, where T-Bonds are moving this morning around 4.87% (+2 pts) after crossing 5% last week, a level unexplored since 2007. The German Bund stands around 2.80% and the OAT at 3.42%.

Oil prices are continuing their decline over the past week due to a less favorable outlook with the expected slowdown in global growth. The price of Brent thus fell by 1.5%, to $89 per barrel.

In French company news, Eutelsat announced Friday evening the signing of a new agreement with the company PSSI Global Services with a view to renewing and extending its partnership relating to capacity on board its Eutelsat 113 West A satellite. .

ArcelorMittal announced last Saturday that a tragic accident occurred at its Kostenco coal mine in Kazakhstan, with 25 workers confirmed dead and 21 others still missing.
The steel group also confirmed that it has started discussions with the government of Kazakhstan regarding the future of ArcelorMittal Temirtau and has recently signed a preliminary agreement for a transaction that will transfer ownership to the state.

Finally, Riber posts a turnover as of September 30, 2023 of 16.2 million euros, up 33% compared to the first nine months of 2022 thanks to its strengthening in the field of MBE systems intended for production.
