CAC40: in red, the banking sector is contracting


(CercleFinance.com) – The Paris Stock Exchange lost nearly 0.9% this morning, around 8,125 points, particularly penalized by the banking sector with -2% for Société Générale and -1.2% for Crédit Agricole and -0 .9% for Bnp Paribas.

Investors seem to want to limit risks in a wait-and-see context, in the absence of economic indicators and significant results on the agenda but also on the eve of Nvidia’s results and the publication of the last ‘minutes’ of the Fed.

‘In our opinion the minutes will have a more restrictive tone, the opposite of that held by Jerome Powell during his press conference, knowing that other members of the committee are more worried than him about the effects of their policy’, warn BofA analysts.

In the bond compartment, the yield on 10-year Treasury bills stabilized at around 4.43% after its decline last week which brought it to one-month lows.

Little movement either on the foreign exchange front, where the euro remains in balance against the dollar, at 1.0865.
Note that bitcoin reached new heights, at $70,930 (+1.8%).

On the energy front, oil prices continue to move within a narrow range, but at levels rather close to the bottom of their current range.

After the sell-off at the end of April, due to the realization that the conflict in the Middle East would probably have very limited, if any, impact on supply, and weak demand, Brent fell to 0 .8%, around $83 per barrel.

In the news of French companies, ArcelorMittal announced on Tuesday the commissioning of its industrial demonstrator intended to capture gases from the blast furnace of its steelworks in Ghent (Belgium).

The bondholders would have rejected Daniel Kretinsky’s offer according to La Tribune. The bond creditors reportedly sent a letter this weekend to Bercy and the court administrator to indicate that they rejected this offer.

TotalEnergies announces the final investment decision (FID) of the Kaminho deepwater project, allowing its launch. This project is intended to develop the Cameia and Golfinho fields, off the Angolan coast.
