CAC40: resists towards 7150Pts after the PMI figures

(CercleFinance.com) – The CAC40 begins the session at a roughly stable level this Monday morning, after an agreement reached at the last minute this weekend in Congress to avoid a ‘shutdown’, that is to say a partial closure of the federal administration in the United States. The CAC40 gained 0.2% towards 7150 Points.

‘The agreement for provisional financing will only last until November 17,’ Commerzbank recalls, however, warning that ‘consequently, a new edition of the budgetary drama is looming in a few weeks’.

In the meantime, this agreement will make it possible to avoid a postponement of the publications of certain American statistics, such as industrial orders and the trade balance for the month of August, and especially the official employment report for September.

More generally, these days will also see the publication of the PMI activity indices – including those for the manufacturing sector which were published this morning -, as well as data for the euro zone such as the unemployment rate and producer prices for August.

Having stood at 43.4 in September, the HCOB PMI index for the euro zone manufacturing industry fell very slightly compared to the previous month (43.5), signaling a further deterioration in the industrial situation of the euro zone.

The HCOB PMI index for the French manufacturing industry, produced by S&P Global, fell from 46 in August to 44.2 in September, falling further below the 50 mark without change and posting its lowest level since May 2020.

The unemployment rate in the euro zone stood at 6.4% in August on a seasonally adjusted basis, compared to 6.5% the previous month, Eurostat announced. In the EU, the unemployment rate stood at 5.9% in August 2023, down from the rate of 6.0% recorded in July 2023.

In securities news, Casino announces that it has completed the sale of the first wave of 61 points of sale to Groupement Les Mousquetaires and extended the deadline until October 3 to conclude a lock-up agreement with its creditors.

Operators will also be able to react to the results revealed by the agri-food group Bonduelle for its 2022-23 financial year or those of the health IT specialist Equasens for the first six months of the year.
