CAC40: rising timidly before the opening of Wall Street


(CercleFinance.com) – The CAC40 gained nearly 0.3% this morning, around 7,595 points, benefiting in particular from the rise in luxury, with +1.3% for Kering and Hermès.

Investors are awaiting the reopening of Wall Street, which was closed yesterday for the day commemorating the abolition of slavery (‘Juneteenth’) and whose direction could give new impetus to the markets.

The ‘futures’ on New York indices are currently signaling an opening in positive territory after the new records established Tuesday evening, thanks in particular to the continued rise of Nvidia, now the world’s largest capitalization.

In Europe, few announcements are expected from the BoE, which will communicate its decision on rates at 1 p.m.

The recent slowdown in inflation, which last month reached the 2% target established by the central bank, is however beginning to fuel speculation about an upcoming rate cut.

‘The signals sent by the British economy are contradictory’, underline Oddo BHF analysts, who highlight on the one hand ‘robust’ growth and the rise in wages and prices of services, but also a rate of rising unemployment and a job market ‘close to an inflection point’.

‘A rate cut is not expected this week but the downward cycle should begin in August or September,’ predicts the private bank.

Before the BoE, the Swiss National Bank is expected to maintain the accommodative stance of its monetary policy in the morning, perhaps by carrying out a further rate cut.

Several statistics will also punctuate the session in the United States, with the publication of the latest real estate figures, the Philadelphia Fed index and registrations for unemployment benefits.

On the bond market, the gap between the yield on the ten-year German Bund (2.42%) and that of its French equivalent of the same maturity (3.17%) stabilizes at just under 80 basis points, at its highest since 2012.

The euro weakened again to return to around $1.0735.

In the news of French companies, Bic indicates that it is updating its turnover growth prospects for the year 2024, due to a difficult macroeconomic environment including a moderate to high single-digit decline in the lighter market in United States (in value)’.

Dassault Systèmes announces that Mahindra & Mahindra, an Indian automobile and agricultural machinery manufacturer, has opted for its 3DEXPERIENCE cloud platform to accelerate the entire development process of its new products.

Technip Energies announces that it has won a ‘significant’ contract (between 50 and 250 million euros in turnover according to its terminology) from Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), which will be included in the order intake for the second quarter 2024.

The Canal+ group, a subsidiary of Vivendi, announced Thursday that it had increased its stake in the Asian streaming service Viu to 36.8%, in accordance with the agreement concluded with Hong Kong’s PCCW last year.
