CAC40: sets new records, crosses 8100 points,


(CercleFinance.com) – The Paris Stock Exchange ended the session at 8137 points (+0.62%), its new closing record, after having signed a new intraday record at 8157 points a little earlier in the day.

The Parisian index is notably driven by Schneider Electric and Bnp Paribas (+2.1%).

Yesterday, the publication of a rather disappointing report on US inflation did not stop the dynamic at work on the markets, a dynamic supported by investors’ enthusiasm for technological stocks while generative AI is at the center of all attention.

“Investments in this area, especially in companies such as Meta and Salesforce, have achieved excellent returns in 2023,” highlights Erling Haugan Kise, fund manager at DNB Asset Management.

The agenda being poor in statistics today, little movement on the bond since the US T-Bond deteriorates by +2.5Pts towards 4.182%, while in Europe, the Bunds are tightening by +2Pts, to 2.346%.

Note this new absolute record – one more – on bitcoin, around $72,700 (+2.2%) while the dollar remains stable against the euro, around $1.09/E.
This late afternoon is lively in the ‘energy’ sector with a barrel climbing +1.5% and close to $83.6.

On the securities front, Vallourec (+7.4%) announces that ArcelorMittal has entered into an agreement to purchase the stake of 28.4% of the voting rights and 27.5% of the capital held by Apollo in its capital, for a total amount of 955 million euros.

BNP Paribas (+2.1%) estimates that ‘the year 2024 will be at a level higher than the distributable net profit published in 2023’ and announces an acceleration as well as an expansion of its efficiency measures operational cost of approximately 400 million recurring euros.

Solvay (+3.4%) publishes underlying net income from continuing operations of 588 million euros for 2023, compared to 740 million previously, but free cash flow (FCF) up 17.3% to 561 million, representing a record FCF conversion rate of 45.4%.

Dassault Systèmes and Rexel announce that their boards of directors will propose to their general meetings, dividends of respectively 0.23 euros and 1.20 euros per share for 2023, in cash.

Thales has expanded its partnership with Neural Labs, a company that provides video analytics for smart cities and AI-driven intelligent transportation systems (ITS).

Thales also announced that it is modernizing air traffic management at Astana and Almaty airports in Kazakhstan with the deployment of an advanced surface movement guidance and control system (A-SMGCS).

Finally, Rubis gained almost 1.5% after announcing that it had entered into exclusive negotiations with I Squared Capital for the sale of its 55% stake in the Rubis Terminal JV.
