Since April 2023, many burglaries have been committed all over Calvados. Their particularity? These took place in the homes of deceased persons… at the time of their funeral. As reported West France, Tuesday August 1, 2023, these are two people who were tried in immediate appearance on July 28, 2023. The first is 66 years old, has a heavy criminal record and denied any involvement. The man was sentenced to two years in prison, including 12 months suspended probation. Regarding the second, it is a 55-year-old man, who went to Morocco to resell the multimedia equipment stolen during the burglaries. The latter admitted the facts, explaining that he had done so because of his gambling addiction. The court then “taking into account its cooperation in the investigation and the regrets expressed”. He will have to follow treatment against his addiction. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison, including 12 months suspended probation.
This very precise technique of the two burglars
The two Caennais stole objects of great sentimental value for many families. For this, they had a very precise technique, spotted by the police after a long investigation. As explained West France, CCTV footage helped identify a vehicle and its occupants. Telephone investigations were carried out and information from several brigades was compiled. These highlight the fact that telephones move at the same time but also that they “deactivate at the same time, when approaching the scene of the burglaries”, can we read. Regarding burglaries, the two suspects used to check beforehand. To ensure that the occupants were not present in the targeted houses, the sexagenarian called the home with “a prepaid phone”. Seeing that no one answered, the two accomplices could then go to the scene to rob them. During the trial, many civil parties were present. They mentioned the “additional penalty” that these burglaries have added to their pain.
