President Emmanuel Macron was in Bourges this Thursday for a day devoted to defense and armaments. After visiting the Military School, the Head of State went to a factory that manufactures Caesar cannon shells, used in the war in Ukraine. The opportunity for Emmanuel Macron to address the question of possible future orders.
The day after his television interview devoted to domestic political subjects, Emmanuel Macron donned his warlord costume on Thursday. The president went to Bourges in the Cher to visit the Military School, where he learned about the training of future non-commissioned officers specialized in aeronautical maintenance and road transport vehicles. Then participated in the inauguration of the launch pad for Caesar guns, those delivered to Ukraine to help the country repel the Russian invasion.
Technical explanations and specific question
Finally, the President visited the Nexter factory which notably manufactures shells for the famous Caesar guns. It takes nine months to manufacture, as the manager of the factory explained to the head of state before presenting the different types of ammunition produced. “There are different tools: a primer, a propellant system called modular charges, and you put one to six depending on the distance you want to shoot. If you put six, you can go up to 42 kilometers”, he explains to Emmanuel Macron.
A question quickly comes to the president: “If we wanted to develop and say that we are responding to an allied European order, how much can we go up to per month?” The question of the rate, of a possible further increase in the rate of production if the situation required it. In reality, Emmanuel Macron wants France to adapt its military apparatus to the new war economy.
In two weeks, on November 9 in Toulon in the Var, the Head of State will set the course for the future military orientation law for the period 2024-2030.
