Chopped voices, transparent limbs, and faces that mysteriously turn away at the end of sentences with conspicuous frequency: Up until now, the use of artificial intelligence in video or audio snippets was something to be laughed at. But the fact that it is becoming increasingly difficult to recognize deepfakes was shown over the weekend when several social media accounts of prominent people were hacked and used as advertising space for memecoins. Caitlyn Jenner may also have been affected. As a result, millions of euros were deposited into the memecoin “JENNER” that she promoted. But it seems unclear whether it was really Caitlyn Jenner behind it – or AI-generated videos.
Memecoin coup raises questions
Caitlyn Jenner is a prominent person in the USA. The former Olympic participant, who came out as trans in 2015, is known to millions of people thanks to her appearances in the trash TV format “The Kardashians”. Her Twitter profile has over three million followers.
They have been inundated with Memecoin advertising since the weekend. In several tweets, the account advertises the coin “JENNER”. With great success. The market capitalization is now Dexscreener 36 million US dollars. But the question is: is that really Caitlyn Jenner sitting on the other end of the screen?
Doubts quickly arose. Not only because the PR stunt came as a surprise and tweets were published with the frequency that usually occurs with scams. The appearance of Caitlyn Jenner’s manager in the Twitter video conference format Space also caused irritation. Was an AI voice used?
At least that is what some of those who took part claim. A short laugh could be heard in the background every now and then. As alleged evidence, a Video by Caitlyn Jenner itself, which was supposed to expose a noticeably misplaced eyebrow as AI-generated. This is supported by the fact that the video was deleted from the official Twitter profile.
The confusion is perfect
The evidence seems overwhelming. Dozens of tweets about a memecoin, the pattern of a pump-and-dump scam, signs of deepfake videos, and: the wallet is the samethat has been used in other alleged scams. However, Caitlyn Jenner still claims that the videos are real. In a videowhich some ironically doubt as an AI fake.
So far, it’s one person’s word against another’s. Much of it looks like a professionally orchestrated fraud – but there is no evidence of this. It is still unclear whether the videos were created using artificial intelligence or simply distorted by filters. This shows that the line between real and manipulated content is becoming increasingly thin.
