At the microphone of Europe 1, Bruno Mégarbane, head of the intensive care unit at the Lariboisière hospital in Paris, returned to this platform. For him, “the entire hospital is in bad shape”.

In a column published in The world, they denounce the “untenable ethical dilemmas” they face due to lack of beds and staff. They are calling for a bill that would guarantee a maximum number of patients per caregiver. Bruno Mégarbane, head of the intensive care unit at Lariboisière hospital in Paris, is one of the signatories of this forum. At the microphone of Europe 1, he discusses the difficulties that health professionals in the hospital world face.
“The public hospital is running out of steam with a degraded care situation that is now almost usual. This deterioration is accompanied by a risk of non-optimal care for patients,” he explains.
“The whole hospital is in bad shape”
According to him, the first difficulty is “the lack of beds. If you come to an emergency department and the doctor who sees you considers that your medical situation justifies hospitalization, you will probably have to wait several hours, to not to say one or two days, on a stretcher in a post-emergency department, until an effective bed in the corresponding specialty department can become available.”
“It is true that there is a certain impression of mistreatment, particularly among paramedics. The current crisis has put the spotlight on the emergency services but in fact the entire hospital is in bad shape,” he concludes at the microphone. Europe 1.
