Call of Duty: Future Warfare, gameplay from a canceled opus revealed, a big loss for fans?

Franchise Call of Duty seems particularly well established over all these years, with a new opus launched every year thanks to Infinity Ward, Treyarch And Sledgehammer Games. But Activision still tried other things by entrusting the license to other studiosunaccustomed to the genre of FPS.

This week, we discover of gameplay of Call of Duty: Future Warfare, a canceled installment which was developed by Neversoftknown for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater And Guitar Hero. Before helping Infinity Ward on Call of Duty: Ghostshe had started the development of an opus for Xbox 360 (and undoubtedly PC and PS3), which resurfaced today with several videos of gameplay shared by a certain @mangafigurines on X/Twitter.

The veracity of these snippets was confirmed by Brian Bright, who was a developer on Call of Duty: Future Warfaremostly known internally under the code name NX1. As he explains on X/Twitter, Activision had asked Neversoft to develop a game Call of Duty in a futuristic universeat the time when the thinking heads ofInfinity Ward had gone to found Respawn Entertainment (Titanfall). The mission above took place on the Moon, with sequences in low gravity, but it was mainly used by developers to get their hands on the game engine, they who had until now only made skate or rhythm games. Excerpts from the multiplayer mode of Call of Duty: Future Warfare were also shared via @catgurlfriendwith for the first time a mode Escort.

Brian Bright did not explain why Activision has canceled Call of Duty: Future Warfarebut the franchise did take a detour to the Moon via the mode Zombies of Call of Duty Black Opsbefore entering completely into the future with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare in 2014 thanks to Sledgehammer Gameswho signed his first CoD alone. Fans also see the beginnings of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfaredeveloped in 2016 by Infinity Ward. Call of Duty: Future Warfare was undoubtedly too far ahead of its time, which is a shame for Neversoft and the fans.
