In the world of video games, there are two categories of players: those who like to have their games boxed, and those who opt for digital versions. We know it only too well, but the pleasure is absolute when you pick up your little game, with its beautiful box and its beautiful jacket. And in addition to sometimes saving a few euros, the physical versions also save installation time since the game is normally entirely on it (apart from updates).
Yes, but here it is… As far as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is concerned, things are different, and the boxed version has frustrated a lot of players, we explain why.
Avoid buying the physical version of Modern Warfare 2!
We know it only too well but, for a few years now, Call of Duty titles have had fairly large sizes, not without difficulty exceeding +100GB each time. As a result, it is not uncommon to see a majority of players opt for physical versions since this way, the installation goes much faster: there are only updates to download.
As it concerns Modern Warfare 2, and for the first time in the history of the license, things are very different. On social networks, we have indeed learned with amazement that, even if Infinity Ward’s FPS is indeed available in a box, the CD contains only… 70 MB of data!
What are the consequences for the players and for the planet?
What is to be understood by this? Well to put it simply: the Modern Warfare 2 CD doesn’t even have the game, and players must go through the internet if they want to be able to download the Multiplayer but also and especially the Campaign, which is quite outrageous. As a reminder, the game exceeds 100GB this year, and even reaches 150 for PS5 consoles, and for those who don’t have a good connection, it’s just a real ordeal…
Otherwise, producing millions of CDs with only 70MB of data on them, that’s really not responsible, and pollutes too much for absolutely nothing… Mass production is already not great, but it’s worse when it’s not needed like here. Therefore, whether you have a good connection or not, the best thing for this title is to buy it in digital version (but at a high price, unfortunately…).
