Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II beta broke all records, Infinity Ward takes stock of upcoming improvements

Activision not having communicated on this, we can imagine that the beta of Vanguard had not broken the attendance records set by that of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War in 2020. The franchise’s momentum isn’t waning, however, as the beta of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II just did better.

The publisher indeed reveals that it was “the biggest beta in Call of Duty history”, with “the most players, the most hours played and the most games played”. The precise figures have not been communicated (and it could be the most popular beta of all games combined), but it proves that the enthusiasm around the project ofInfinity Ward is real. The studio should now respond to the many feedback from the community on the Multiplayerand also provides some tweaks before release.

First of all, THANK YOU to everyone who played the MW2 beta for the past two weeks. We loved seeing you all playing our game and creating amazing moments. If you haven’t already, share them with us on social media and we might share some of our favorites!

As we head into launch, we’ll be making some tweaks based on learnings from the beta. One of the most important parts of the beta is getting you, the players, to find new bugs and issues for us. We’re grateful to the community for coming together to help us polish this game, and we can’t wait to show you even more.

As we work hard on a ton of content for you to play at launch and beyond, here are a few things we want to highlight…

While the sentiment around footsteps was more positive in the second weekend, we’ve seen your continued feedback on footstep volume and will continue to balance enemy/friend footstep audio before launch.

Enemy visibility is something that showed up throughout the two weekends of our beta. While many of you noticed the improvement in the second weekend, we’ll be looking to tweak the increased enemy visibility to allow for better visual tracking of opponents that wouldn’t just be the traditional nameplate.

Dissolving lobbies is another topic we covered during the beta. We believe this is an important feature and are actively researching potential solutions for the launch.

In terms of weapons, we’re very happy with the results of the weapon tuning changes we’ve made for Weekend 2 of the Beta. We have more changes to come considering weapon performance in the beta and we can’t wait for everyone to get their hands on ALL weapons in MWII!

We were thrilled to see so much interest in our third person mode. We’ve heard feedback about inverting the over-the-shoulder camera, and we’ll continue to make improvements to this mode for launch. More soon !

Ground War and Invasion also received a lot of love from beta players. Thanks to our dedicated fans, we have many bugs to fix in these two modes. We also have some improvements coming to AI movement in Invasion.

We’re still processing beta feedback and data, and will continue to share more details on the way to launch. Expect more updates from Team RICOCHET on what is being done to combat cheating in the weeks to come.

Modern Warfare II will be released on October 28, but if you pre-ordered the game, you can play the campaign up to a week early! Early access to the campaign begins October 20.

Enough to achieve a launch as exceptional as that of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare in 2019? You can experience it with the community if you pre-order Modern Warfare II from €64.90 per Fnac.
