It looks like the Call of Duty series hasn’t been in its best days lately. Indeed, according to a recent investor report, the engagement rate and therefore the audience on games stamped Call of Duty would have decreased during the fourth quarter of 2021, whether on PC or consoles. Moreover, Call of Duty: Vanguard sold less well than Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War. On the other hand, unlike Call of Duty Mobile, which was recently released in China and has seen strong user and profit growth, there is a noticeable drop in players on the battle royale, Call of Duty: Warzone.
For the moment, Activision has not really expressed itself on this subject. However, according to the same report, the studio reportedly plans to “relaunch the Call of Duty franchise expansion later this year with all-new groundbreaking experiences”. No further information was given, unfortunately. Thus, we must wait for an official communication from Activision in order to know their point of view and their strategy to increase the audience rate on their Call of Duty games. Maybe they have something completely new and original planned for the next installment which is rumored to arrive in October, at the latest.
As a reminder, Call of Duty: Warzone is available for free on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One and Nintendo. To be found on smartphones (iOS and Android) Call of Duty Mobile is also free.
