Call of Duty, or Battlefield – which of the two shooter series is actually better? Fans on both sides have been discussing this for years. But I can’t really understand all the excitement, because my heart beats for both CoD and Battlefield – even after the big scandal surrounding the latest offshoot.

There are things in this world that you can always count on: the sun rises every morning, Deutsche Bahn apologizes for “delays in operations” and the new Call of Duty is definitely better than the current installment in the Battlefield series . Or was it the other way around?
The communities of the two game series have been dealing with exactly this topic for years. Each side is firmly convinced that their favorite game is better than that of the class enemy in every respect.
Call of Duty vs. Battlefield: Does the comparison even make sense?
However, the truth is quite different: Both Call of Duty and Battlefield are almost the perfect shooter – just for different target groups. This means that the initial question is already worded incorrectly. The real question should be: Which game suits you better? And amazingly, there are even a hell of a lot of players who can get something out of both lines – me for example! Hi, my name is Robert and I am currently passionate about playing Call of Duty: Warzone and EA’s old ham Battlefield 3 in my free time – and for completely different reasons.
Because although Battlefield and Call of Duty both sail the seven seas of the gaming industry under the flag of first-person shooters, they both have completely different qualities. While Call of Duty entertaining multiplayer action with especially fast gameplay and responsive controls offers that satisfy my “inner digital Rambo”, Battlefield often provides in its games more atmosphere and more spectacular moments.
Battlefield: That’s what excites me about the shooter series
Anyone who manages to flank the opponent unnoticed in Battlefield can, with a bit of luck, shoot half the team over. And whose eyes didn’t light up when you realized that in Bad Company 2 you can raze entire houses to the ground if you bring heavy equipment.

But what really excites me about Battlefield is that it’s the class system that got me here just part of a huge machine. I depend on my teammates to lend me a hand, shred tanks with rocket launchers, tag enemies—and in return I’ll smack my defibrillator pads in the chest should they die digitally.
Call of Duty: Very different, still awesome!
That doesn’t mean I don’t mind the lone wolf aspect of Call of Duty though – on the contrary! Sometimes that even suits me. I don’t want to think about how to move the front line back five meters to capture a flag, I just want to throw myself head first into the fray to relieve some stress.
Please do not get me wrong. That’s not to say that Call of Duty doesn’t require tactics to be particularly successful – I’m just better at it here shoot through enemy lines head-on as a one-man army, when I have reflexes like a cat, a UAV in the sky and a full magazine. In Battlefield, on the other hand, after my heroic advance, I’m usually alone in the face of a heavy tank that my assault rifle bullets don’t even scratch the paint – unless of course I’m playing a round of TDM on Noshahr channels.
Call of Duty vs. Battlefield: A Choice That Isn’t
I think you get what I’m getting at: Call of Duty is the perfect shooter snack for in between. Fast action in small portions. For Battlefield, on the other hand, I like to take a little more time and I don’t have a problem with the “Conquest” round taking an hour. Both series not only have a permanent place on my SSD but also in my shooter heart.

So the bottom line is that both series have their right to exist. There is no such thing as an “objective winner” – everyone has to decide for themselves which series they love, whether they like both series, or whether they think Battlefield and Call of Duty are completely overrated.
