POIPET, Cambodia (Reuters) – Cambodian rescue services found eight bodies on Friday in the ruins of a hotel casino that had been ravaged by fire overnight from Wednesday to Thursday in Poipet, northwest Cambodia.

Some 400 guests and staff were at the Grand Diamond City, located on the Cambodia-Thailand border, when the fire broke out.

According to the latest report, at least 27 people were killed in the fire and more than 20 people are still missing.

Sek Sokhom, director of the information department of Banteay Mean Chey province, said the fire could have been caused by a short circuit, adding however that the causes of the disaster were not yet known.

A government committee has been created to determine the origin of the fire.
