Cameron Diaz: Her Hollywood Exit Brought Her "Peace"

Cameron Diaz said goodbye to the Hollywood business in 2014 and focused on the family. What feelings did it trigger in her?

It was a consistent but unusual step: Cameron Diaz (47, "Annie") said Ade to the film world in 2014. In 2015, she married rock musician Benji Madden (41) in a Jewish ceremony, and their daughter Raddix was born earlier this year. Diaz now talks to her good friend Gwyneth Paltrow (47) in Paltrow's latest episode of her YouTube series "In Goop Health" about the exit.

"How did it feel to give up a film career of this size?" Paltrow wants to know. Her colleague smiles and says: "Like peace. Peace in my soul because I finally took care of myself." Diaz goes on to say that life as a movie star is very intense. Working on such a level and being so public is very tiring. As a successful Hollywood actress, she was always visible to everyone.

Her 40th birthday brought about a rethink

But the work on yourself is also very intense: "When you make a film, (…) you belong to them. You are there twelve hours a day for months and have no time for anything else." Diaz continues: "I realized that I had given parts of my life to all these other people. I had to take responsibility for my own life."

A change had occurred on her 40th birthday. She had decided to give private things more space. She was a little older than her husband and together they had been concentrating on growing together for the past few years: "We worked hard for a few years where the problems were. It was a lot of work, but we had to do it."

But Diaz is not completely unemployed. She recently became self-employed with entrepreneur Katherine Power. The two founded the organic wine brand "Avaline".
