BRuce Oldfield is now Camilla’s favorite designer. The woman at the king’s side wore the British designer twice on Wednesday in Berlin, and he will also design her dress for the coronation on May 6th. The two, Camilla and the 72-year-old designer, who has also dressed artists such as Rihanna and Sienna Miller, have been friends for a long time. Ironically, Oldfield was already in very close, almost friendly contact with Princess Diana, Charles’ first wife.
Camilla chose a tiara for her long black evening gown, which was florally embroidered with silver threads. It was made for Margaret Greville, a society lady and the wife of an English politician. She was one of the closest friends of the then Queen Maria, Charles’ great-grandmother.
After her death in 1942, she bequeathed her jewelry and tiara, as she herself had no children, to Queen Elizabeth, better known as Queen Mum. She wore the Greville tiara, also named after the jeweler Boucheron, for whom Lucien Hirtz designed it in 1921, on many occasions. She even added another row of diamonds to the piece to make it look even bigger.

Her daughter Elisabeth never wore this Boucheron tiara herself. Just three years after her mother’s death, she gave her mother’s tiara, among other things, on permanent loan to her new daughter-in-law, Camilla, then Duchess of Cornwall. Since then, the wife of the heir to the throne has often been seen with her, for example at Willem-Alexander’s coronation ceremonies ten years ago. The platinum tiara set with a multitude of diamonds has almost become her trademark. Camilla wore a necklace from her mother-in-law around her neck to the state banquet. The necklace, also set with diamonds, was a wedding present for Princess Elisabeth in 1947.
There were three medals on Camilla’s dress on Wednesday evening, including the so-called family order under the left shoulder. It is the highest order to be awarded within the royal family, and it shows the portrait of the young Queen Elizabeth II on a porcelain miniature set with platinum and diamonds.
In addition to the small Order of the Garter on the left waist, there was also the Grand Cross of the Federal Order of Merit, which Camilla had previously been awarded by the German Federal President.
