Campsites in Hamburg: the 3 most beautiful places for your camping holiday

1. Elbecamp, Falkensteiner Ufer

Those who value nature instead of city feeling are at the right place in the Elbecamp on the Falkensteiner Ufer. Because the idyllic place between Wedel and Blankenese in the dunes of the Elbe beach is in a local recreation and landscape protection area: in the north, the forested Geesthang rises almost 100 meters above the Elbe and in the south there is even a natural beach, the last one in Hamburg.

The location could not be better for cyclists and hikers either, because the Elbradweg, the Elbwanderweg and the European long-distance hiking trails E1 and E9 as well as the pilgrimage route Via Baltica pass right here. Children can let off steam in a large, lovingly designed sand playground with a pirate ship. There is also a soccer and beach volleyball court.

Tip: A stop at the cozy camp café and restaurant Lükus, which offers cakes as well as snacks and small dishes – the fries are legendary.

  • Prices and info: Stand from 14.90 euros, adults 7.50 euros, children 4-13 years 2.50 euros, 14-17 years 3.90 euros; elbecamp.de

2nd Camping Buchholz, Hamburg, Kieler Strasse

If you want to discover the city, you can't choose a better location: This square is located in the middle of the city in the Elmsbüttel district. From there you can quickly get to the center by public transport – the harbor, the fish market, the Reeperbahn or the Michel, from whose tower you have the best view of the city, are only about 4.5 kilometers away.

The Buchholz family of operators have personally looked after their guests for decades. The site has 30 parceled parking spaces and a modern and well-kept sanitary area. If you don't cater for yourself, you can also have breakfast served in the large lounge in the morning.

Restaurants, supermarkets, an outdoor swimming pool, a playground and the Hagenbeck zoo are only two to ten minutes' walk away.

3. Knaus Campingpark Hamburg, Wunderbrunnen 2

This large campsite with 141 pitches is just a few kilometers outside of Hamburg city center, which is therefore easy to reach by bus and subway. It is located near the motorway – exactly between the Wendlohe Golf Club and Ikea – but is shielded from it by a wall. Thanks to the many bushes and trees, campers feel like they are in the countryside on the meadow.

The place has a kiosk directly at the reception as well as a playground, a playground and tent lawn and a large, well-kept sanitary area. Those who travel without their own camping equipment can also stay in small mobile homes.

Another plus: There are wellness offers with a sauna and swimming pool plus tennis and squash in the sports hotel ten minutes' walk away, which offers campers a cheap day ticket (15 euros).
