Campsites in Meck-Pomm: The 5 most beautiful places for a camping holiday

Camping holidays in their own country have been very popular with many, not only since Corona. In a new series, FOCUS Online presents the most beautiful campsites in every federal state: today Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

1. Ostseecamp Suhrendorf, Ummanz Island

Blowing the fresh sea air around your ears and letting your gaze wander over the Baltic Sea – you can do that at the Ostseecamp Suhrendorf on the island of Ummanz. The 20 square kilometer island directly in front of Rügen belongs to the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park. The great thing about this location: The camp is located directly on Eckernförde Bay, which is considered one of the best standing areas for surfing, kiting and sailing. There is a surfing and kitesurfing school on the premises, which is also a member of the German Water Sports Schools (VDWS), and organizes courses for beginners to advanced.

The campsite itself offers 250 pitches with electricity, fresh water, sewage and television connections and is located on a flat area planted with bushes and trees – between pastures and pine forests. This also includes a large lawn and the approximately 100 meter long sandy beach. There is also a playground for children and an entertainment program.

2. Camping park Kühlungsborn, Baltic Sea

Miles of sandy beach right in front of your nose – the location of the Camping Park Kühlungsborn on the Baltic Sea coast, more precisely in the Mecklenburg Bay, could not be better. Since 1996, the town with 7000 inhabitants has been officially called "Seebad". The longest lake promenade in Germany runs there with a length of 3.1 kilometers.

The campsite itself is located about 600 meters from the center in a partially natural dune and forest area. A total of 550 parking spaces are available to holidaymakers, most of them parceled out and generously dimensioned with 80 to 150 square meters. There is also a restaurant, an additional sanitary area with a children's pool and a wellness area with a Finnish sauna, steam bath and infrared cabin.

A course program for adults with yoga, Pilates, Zumba and archery as well as an animation program for children with handicraft offers, hikes, torchlight parades and romantic campfires provide for sports and entertainment.

3rd campsite at Freesenbruch, Ostseeheilbad Zingst

This six-hectare campsite is located just two kilometers from the famous Baltic resort of Zingst on the peninsula of the same name – in the middle of the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park. The kilometer-long, white sandy beach is just under 100 meters.

The 364 parking spaces have a power connection, in the comfort category as well as fresh water, waste water and cable connections. If you like to exercise your muscles and love wellness, this is the place for you: Above one of the three sanitary buildings is the "Freesen Lounge" with a fitness room and three saunas, as well as a cosmetic and massage studio.

The restaurant "Zum Deichgrafen" takes care of your physical well-being, which entices with fine fresh cuisine and a large selection of wines. Tip: be sure to explore the beautiful lagoon landscape by bike.

4th Ostseecamp Rostocker Heide, Graal-Müritz

Camping Rostocker Heide is located directly behind the dunes of the Baltic Sea – between Fischland Darß-Zingst and Rostock-Warnemünde. The 500 parking spaces for vacationers are natural and are mainly located in the shady coastal forest. Although the area spans a length of 800 meters and over 500 permanent campers are based there, there is still a cozy and familiar atmosphere. A total of five clean sanitary areas as well as a bath house with family baths and sauna are available to campers – there is also a supermarket, a restaurant, snack bar and ice cream parlor as well as a shop with camping equipment and swimwear.

The beach offers a lot of space, which is up to 30 meters wide and is monitored by lifeguards – if you like to drop the covers, you can do this in a designated area. Tip: Make a bonfire on the beach in the evening – the license costs five euros at the reception, fire bowls and bundles of firewood are free of charge.

5. Ostseecamp Seeblick, Rerik

It couldn't be nicer – this place is located directly above the steep coast of the Baltic Sea between Rerik and Kühlungsborn and offers guests a fantastic view of the sea. The best thing for campers to do is to get one of the 401 pitches at the very front so that they can enjoy the view and the sound of the sea undisturbed.

The beautiful sandy beach is directly below and can be reached via a footpath. There is also a diving center, which regularly offers taster courses – for everyone who wants to explore the underwater world of the Baltic Sea. Guided fishing trips can also be booked by holidaymakers – those who pull a cod out of the sea and want to take it home can freeze it at the reception.

Other amenities of the Ostseecamp: a self-service market, an Italian restaurant and a wellness area, which offers not only a sauna, cosmetic treatments and foot care, but also massage and even physiotherapy.
