Campsites in Thuringia: where you can camp most beautifully

Camping holidays in their own country have been very popular not only since Corona – even if you can now travel to many European countries again. In a new series, FOCUS Online presents the most beautiful campsites in every federal state: today Thuringia.

1. Camping Paulfeld, Georgenthal

Located in the middle of the Thuringian Forest, Camping Paulfeld in Georgenthal is the ideal starting point for extensive hikes and bike tours. If you also want a bit of culture on vacation, it is not far to the cultural cities of Gotha, Eisenach, Erfurt and Weimar. You can let the sun shine on your belly at the swimming pond in front of you, anglers can be found at the fishing pond. A highlight, especially for children, is the petting zoo, which houses alpacas, among other things.

The area of ​​the campsite consists of meadows and is structured by hedges and trees. There is space for 80 holidaymakers with their motorhomes, caravans or tents on pitches between 60 and 100 square meters in size, and there are also 160 spaces for long-term campers and five rental accommodations. If you travel by camper and want to go on a trip by car, you can rent a local electric car for 55 euros per day.

2nd campsite at the Waldbad, Neustadt

About 110 pitches for each type of camping are spread over a little over 2.5 hectares at the campsite at the Waldbad in the climatic health resort of Neustadt in the low mountain range. The site is not only located directly at a forest pool, but also in the immediate vicinity of the Hohnstein castle ruins, which lend themselves to one or two exploration tours.

In the self-service shop, campers can find everything they need for their everyday life. In addition to fresh bread from the country baker, a small snack. The course is also in the middle of the Harz nature and UNESCO geopark, and the surrounding area can be explored on foot and by bike.

3rd Rennsteig caravanning Valentinsteich, Friedrichroda

Rennsteig caravaning Valentinsteich in Friedrichroda is a family and quiet place. Just 38 parking spaces and three rental accommodation on a good hectare of meadows right next to the forest promise pure peace. If you don't want to be completely alone, you will find a barbecue hut on the tent meadow for cozy barbecues. On rainy days, guests can make themselves comfortable in the Valentine's room with a fireplace, television and free Wi-Fi. A sauna and an outdoor bathtub complete the offer.

There's a bit more action when hiking in the surrounding area. In addition, the accommodations in the area have joined together and offer their guests a guest card with which they can use public transport free of charge and receive numerous discounts in the surrounding area.

4th Camping Thuringian Forest, Drognitz

The Thuringian Forest campsite in Drognitz is also surrounded by greenery. Surrounded by forests, it is also suitable for long excursions and walks. Action-hungry do not have to leave the square: in the center is a playground including badminton, beach volleyball and soccer field.

A total of 100 parking spaces for holidaymakers, rental accommodation and seven spaces for long-term campers are spread across the seven hectares of meadows. The Hohenwarte Reservoir, also known as the Thuringian Sea, is about 900 meters away.

5. Camping Palumpa-Land, Niederdorla

Holidaymakers can find nature and the lake at the Palumpa-Land campsite in Niederdorla, which is located at the reservoir of the same name. "Open to everything, free from everything" is the motto of the young place.

A small headland or a jetty leads to the lake. The on-site boats are also parked on the headland, and guests can borrow them for a short tour of the lake. A total of 50 parking spaces are spread across five hectares of meadow, divided by young hedges and trees.

There is also a 40 meter long and 15 meter wide sandy beach along the lake. There is also a beach bar with cocktails and small snacks, a small playground and a beach volleyball court. Hiking is also practically possible here directly from the tent, because the campsite is located in the middle of the Hainich National Park, which is also known for its tree top path.
