“Can do what you want”: Spurs coach sends tip in the direction of Bayern

Spurs coach sends tip in the direction of Bayern

Will Harry Kane switch or not? It is the 100 million euro question that has been on Bayern Munich’s mind these weeks. The Bundesliga club definitely wants the goalscorer, and his current club doesn’t want to let him go too cheaply. His coach is irritated.

Ange Postecoglou is to be envied these days – or not, depending on your point of view. The Australian, manager of Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur, has one of the best strikers in the world in his squad. But how long Harry Kane will continue to score goals for him is unclear. England’s record goalscorer scored four times in the 5-1 win over Shakhtar Donetsk on Sunday evening, unperturbed by the fuss surrounding him. But FC Bayern Munich is courting the striker – and very publicly. “Then Tottenham will buckle,” the eternal Bayern patron had predicted about the negotiations, which have been dragging on for weeks without result – without Tottenham’s boss Daniel Levy having actually buckled in the face of record offers.

Postecoglou is suspicious of the behavior of the Bundesliga club. “That’s Bayern’s decision. If they want to do things that way, it’s not up to me to judge.” However, he himself would “not talk about players who are under contract with another club, but I’m not at Bayern, so they can do what they want”. Various English media had recently reported that FC Bayern had a deadline at midnight on Saturday, by which time a decision on Kane’s future had been desired. Kane, who is said to wish for a change this summer, would become the most expensive newcomer in Bundesliga history: In order to get the striker into the Bundesliga early, a transfer fee of around 100 million euros would be due.

“Deadline is the end of the transfer window”

International top football in the afternoon: RTL broadcasts the top-class test matches of FC Bayern Munich live and exclusively on free TV. FC Bayern will contest the last test before the start of the Bundesliga Monday 7 August at 16.55 against AS Monaco. Former Bundesliga coach Adi Hütter is on the sidelines of the eight-time French champions.

On his trip to Asia, FC Bayern had previously beaten Liverpool FC in a spectacular test (4:3), the comparison with Champions League winners Manchester City was lost (1:2).

The striker’s contract in London runs until July 2024, when the 30-year-old would be free. Postecoglou, who took over from Antonio Conte after Spurs’ disappointing last season, is relaxed here too: “There is a deadline and that is the end of the transfer window. In addition, I’m regularly in one with Harry and the club open dialogue,” he said. The transfer window for transfers to the Bundesliga closes on the evening of September 1st. “I’ve told them that if the status quo changes, they have to let me know. I don’t need to know what’s coming and going in between. I just want to deal with what’s ahead because I have to, regardless of Result, build a team here.”

He is preparing the team for a friendly against FC Barcelona on Tuesday before preparing for the start of the Premier League season against Brentford FC – and “I haven’t even thought about who will start this game”. FC Bayern Munich opens the new Bundesliga season on August 18th against SV Werder Bremen.
