Can the supplier change the price of my fixed price contract?

Can the price list of a fixed price electricity contract over a specific period be modified by the supplier, asks a MoneyVox reader. Here is an update on the rules in force.

Question from Bernard, February 10

Hello, I have a fixed price electricity contract over 12 months. Can my supplier change the price of my fixed price contract?

Hello Bernard, and thank you for your question.

Like many individuals, you have decided to take a fixed price offer. In fact, this type of contract theoretically allows you to have more clarity on your budget since the price of electricity is locked in for a period of between 12 and 36 months. The offers from fixed price suppliers are more and more numerous and sometimes less expensive than the EDF regulated tariff.

A priori, this is a godsend since it allows you to protect yourself from changes in energy prices. The energy mediator confirms MoneyVox that a supplier does not have the right to modify the price of a fixed price contract during the contract. He can only do this when luck comes.

On the other hand, one month before the contract expires, it can either offer you new pricing conditions, or inform you that it is not renewing the contract and that you must take out a new contract with another supplier. If the contract is not renewed by your supplier or the new contract does not suit you, you can change supplier or offer, specifies the mediator.
