Emmanuel Macron, rockstar on Twitter

10 hashtags stood out in France on Twittergiving pride of place to politics, with the legislative and presidential elections, but also to entertainment and sport, with the show TPMP and OM fans.

If Twitter’s year was marked by the takeover of the company by Elon Musk and the numerous layoffs, changes and setbacks that have since ensued, the social network has also experienced a particularly eventful 2022 cycle in terms of content. , after two years punctuated by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Visibrain monitoring platform offers us the explosive top 10 of the most powerful French hashtags of the year.

Macron, stronger than Nupes and Zemmour

No more Covid, make way for politics, buzz and rumours! And the big winner of the year is called: Emmanuel Macron. The hashtag in his name was taken up in 7.8 million tweets in French in 2022. The President of the Republic, re-elected, notably “shone” on the sidelines of the McKinsey affair. 29% of tweets concerning him associate him with the American cabinet. His victory in the second round of the presidential election against Marine Le Pen was no more impactful than that, with 103,339 tweets featuring the Macron hashtag.

A true UFO in this top 10 but oh so revealing, the hashtag #Concours occupies, as in 2021, the second position with 5.7 million tweets in French. Contests are still trending, despite a drop in interactions (-8%), and bundles including consoles (PS5, Xbox and Nintendo) alone account for more than 20% of tweets.

She was born in May 2022. But in the space of a few months, the Nupes (New popular ecological and social union) generated 4.3 million tweets in French until climbing on the podium of the most relayed hashtags this year.

That of #Legislatives2022 comes further behind, with 2.9 million tweets. Unlike the presidential election, broken up into multiple hashtags and spellings, the legislative elections were able to live around this almost unique keyword.

Eric Zemmour (9e last year) completes the top 5, with 2.2 million tweets in French. The former columnist for Laurent Ruquier and CNews is simply the second most talked about political figure on Twitter this year. But the media frenzy around the polemicist fell at the end of the first round of the presidential election. 78% of messages including the hashtag #Zemmour were posted in the first four months of the year.

OM knock on the door of Mélenchon and TPMP

Terrrrrrrrible fall for the hashtag #Covid19 in 2022! After two years at the top of the charts, now the pandemic is moving away unchallenged from first place, to tumble to the bottom of the top 5, with 2.1 million tweets. The hashtag took a much smaller place in French discussions, with three times fewer messages this year compared to 2021 (6.4 million tweets).

Let’s leave politics for a moment, well not really, to talk a little “teloche”. » Thanks to debates on the news, buzz in spades and guests who make talk, the show Do not touch My TV, hosted by Cyril Hanouna on C8, is the one we talk about the most on Twitter. The #TPMP hashtag was used in 1.9 million tweets in 2022. The highlight: we find the presenter’s skid with LFI deputy Louis Boyard, the most commented sequence of the year, with 136,400 tweets the 11th of November.

LFI always, but this time with its patriarch, Jean-Luc Mélenchon. The boss of the Insoumis and presidential candidate is the third and last personality present in this top 10. Like Éric Zemmour, the former deputy of Bouches-du-Rhône has bet everything on the start of the year. 65% of tweets mentioning #Melenchon were posted in the first four months of the year. Note that the day after the first round of the presidential election, he was the most quoted candidate, with 110,000 tweets.

We were talking to you about the legislative elections earlier, but the presidential election nevertheless managed to make it into the top 10, at the 9e square. The hashtag #Presidentielle2022, mentioned in 1.87 million tweets in French, is a bit like the tree that hides the forest. Because the supreme election will still have generated 121 million messages on social networks, which remains the major event of this year 2022.

How about we talk football a bit? Not from the World Cup, no, but from OM, or Olympique de Marseille, for those who have pretended, no doubt out of footballing bad faith, not to understand. Olympian club fans have been particularly active this year on Twitter, with 1.7 million tweets behind the hashtag #TeamOM, often associated with that of #VenteOM, the most powerful rumor of the past two years among Marseille supporters. If the results are not always up to expectations, the enthusiasm remains intact.
