can you receive this exceptional aid from CAF if you are retired?

The 2023 Christmas bonus will be paid in mid-December to 2.3 million beneficiary households. Will withdrawals be able to receive this bonus of 152.45 euros minimum?

The Christmas bonus will be paid mid-December 2.3 million households through the Family Allowance Fund (CAF), the Mutualité sociale agricole (MSA), or even Ple emploi in certain cases. Help put in place in 1998 and always welcome as the end of the year approaches. Its basic amount is 152.45 euros (for a single person).

But who can benefit from this exceptional assistance? The beneficiaries are the people who receive the specific solidarity allowance (ASS), the monthly flat-rate return to work bonus and the active solidarity income (RSA).

And the withdrawals?

Withdrawals, like beneficiaries of the adult disability allowance (AAH), are not entitled to it, with one exception. In fact, the beneficiaries of the retirement equivalent allowance (AER) are eligible. This allowance no longer exists since January 1, 2011 but still benefits to people whose rights have been opened before this date. The AER is assistance paid by Ple emploi to job seekers who have contributed sufficiently for retirement but who have not yet reached retirement age.

Christmas bonus: one good news and two bad news for this aid paid on December 15

Note that the Christmas bonus should once again not be increased this year, despite the increase in prices which should reach 5% in 2023 according to INSEE. The amount paid for the Christmas bonus has not even changed since 1998, apart from a single exception: in 2008 when it reached 220 euros precisely because of inflation which had reached 2.8%.

This year, 500,000 households will still obtain an exceptional Christmas bonus increase of between 115 euros and 200 euros. These are single-parent families.
