Can your job say no to your summer vacation?

Since the start of the deconfinement the French have been waiting every week for news about their summer. And many fears and questions are felt.

It is a word that has become even more important today, the word "vacation". After weeks of confinement, the French want to change their air, their living environment and forget everything under the sun. The looming summer period therefore has an even more particular flavor. According to a study by Qapa (an interim recruitment platform), 78% of French people still want to take vacations this summer, 76% have decided to stay in France. 6% want to go to another country and 18% prefer to stay confined to their home.

But a shadow darkens future escape plans: can an employer refuse a vacation? An interesting question, because it is true, this year the rules have changed.

According to the web media of prevention, safety and health at work, B2care, the company can have a right of veto. In an exceptional situation, specific measures have been put in place. Normally, an employee can take two weeks of consecutive vacation, and even up to 4 weeks over the July-August period. But since an ordinance of March 25, the employer is authorized to impose days off. Until December 31, 2020.

It is therefore possible that a company may refuse its employees to go on vacation in July-August.

Also according to B2care, the period during which an employee can ask 2 weeks in a row still exists, only it was extended by two months, until the end of October. Some French people will experience their holidays off the beaten track if their company considers it necessary to work all summer.

France and Germany call for rapid reopening of the borders of the European Union

The President of the National Assembly and his German counterpart call this Tuesday for the reopening of borders between European countries as soon as possible. "France and Germany must work for the immediate restoration of free movement within the Schengen area when the conditions are met", underline Richard Ferrand and Wolfgang Schäuble in a joint declaration obtained by AFP.

For the moment, a reopening of the borders is planned inside Europe from mid-June, but so far the announcements have been messy between the different European countries despite the European Commission's calls for more consultation.
