In a press release published on Tuesday August 26, the Canal+ group announced that it had acquired the rights to the Venice Film Festival, which will take place from August 31 to September 10. The daily program on the prestigious Italian film festival will be presented by Antoine de Caunes.
This is wonderful news for Canal+ subscribers. The French television group has acquired the rights to the Venice Film Festival for the next two years. Thus, the prestigious Italian film festival, the next edition of which will take place from August 31 to September 10, will be broadcast exclusively for all group subscribers. And to top it off, a daily program will take place with… Antoine de Caunes at the controls.
Historical partner of the Venice Film Festival since 2003, the Italian channel Rai Com has agreed to sign an exclusive partnership with Canal+ to allow the distribution of the festival in France. Last year, it was the French film “The Event”, directed by Audrey Diwan, which won the day by leaving with the Golden Lion. Canal + will obviously broadcast the opening and closing ceremonies of the festival, in addition to having exclusive access to the red carpet during the two weeks of festivities.
Antoine de Caunes will be presenting a daily program at the Venice Film Festival
With the obtaining of the presentation of this daily program for the duration of the Venice Film Festival, Antoine de Caunes will therefore make his big return to daily life, almost ten years after being replaced by Maïtena Biraben at the animation of the Grand Journal in 2015.
“We are very proud to be able to offer exclusively to our subscribers in France, but also in several other countries in Europe and Africa, unparalleled coverage of the event thanks to this unique partnership”, reacted the boss of Canal + Maxime Saada in the press release. The Italian accent is about to land on the antennas of the encrypted channel.
