The Robert Koch Institute has declared the Canary Islands a corona risk area. This applies to travelers returning from Sunday.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has updated the list of identified corona risk areas. Spain including the Canary Islands can now be found on it again. What does that mean for vacationers? From Sunday (December 20), travelers returning to Germany will have to go into ten-day quarantine after their arrival in Germany.

The Canary Islands have so far been one of the few vacation spots in other European countries without a travel warning. The Spanish archipelago has been considered risk-free since the end of October. Rising numbers of infections, especially on Tenerife, mean that it is now being declared a risk area again. The British overseas territory Bermuda, the Varsinais-Suomi region in Finland, the Pärnu region in Estonia and the entire country of Uruguay were recently declared risk areas by the RKI.
