The Cumbre Vieja volcano, located on the Spanish island of La Palma in the Canaries, had been erupting since September. After 85 days of ordeal for the residents, the eruption officially ended on Saturday. A relief for these residents who must now clean up and rebuild an entire area.

A return to calm on the island of La Palma, in the Canaries, is now possible now that the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano is over. It is therefore the end of 85 days of ordeal for the inhabitants. Good news for residents like Amil, a resident of Santa Cruz De Palma, located 12 kilometers from the volcano. “It’s a relief for everyone,” he breathes.

“We had earthquakes at any time of the day, or night,” Amil says. If no casualties are to be deplored, the material damage is very important. “Now that the eruption has ended, the reconstruction work will be able to begin, we are happy like everyone. We will be able to resume certain activities, such as the hikes that we could not do during the eruption because of the risks. gas, ”he explains. In total, more than 7,000 people were evacuated and nearly 3,000 buildings were destroyed.
