Because terminating a subscription or contract online is often an obstacle course, a procedure in 3 clicks maximum will be put in place within a few weeks. Clubic explains to you.

This is one of the major changes of the year on the consumer/practical level (one thinks in particular of the very recent more strictly supervised telephone canvassing), and it will take place from 1er June. Unsubscribing from a service or terminating a contract will, in theory, become as simple as the subscription procedure. A welcome novelty, validated by the law of August 16, 2022 on emergency measures for the protection of purchasing power.

Termination in a handful of clicks, it happens

It was time, one might say! Very often, too often even, canceling your insurance contract, your telephone or internet subscription and others is long and tedious. Registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt, waiting period, multiple reminders… Soon, these long procedures will be a thing of the past, the law allowing a total simplification of the termination of your contract.

From 1er next June, unsubscribing from a service will only take you 3 clicks. This measure concerns Internet access providers/telecom operators as well as insurance companies, mutual insurance companies, electricity or gas suppliers, transport companies, dating sites, newspaper publishers and even sport.

So “how does it work”, as the other would say? It’s very simple: a “cancellation” or “unsubscribe” button, which must be clearly visible, will allow you to break the link that unites you to your service or subscription in just 3 clicks.

Easier termination for contracts taken out in store, by phone and online

This famous button will be accessible from your personal space and your account management. It should be noted right away that it will allow termination, whether you have taken out your contract in person, by telephone or online. It will thus not be possible to cry foul, and again, that’s good.

Once you click the button, what will happen? The company will be responsible for getting back to you to confirm receipt of the request and to indicate the date on which the contract will end. It will also be required to inform you of the effects of the termination. Remember that if you are engaged until such date, unsubscription can only be done from said date. The introduction of a button and the simplification of the process do not call into question contract law, all the same.

But here is a measure that will no doubt be welcomed with a smile by consumers (and a little less by professionals, who may have to manage a large influx of entries and exits in the early stages). The French also benefited, at the start of the year, from an extension of the withdrawal period in the event that they have subscribed to the insurance contract (or commercial guarantee) which accompanies some of their expensive purchases, and which supplements, sometimes without bringing much, the legal guarantee they have in fact, and free of charge.
