  • Switzerland has lost another place in the European comparison for tobacco prevention. This shows a ranking of Association of European Cancer Leagues.
  • Switzerland is now in 36th place, second to last, ahead of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
  • According to the report, Switzerland is more interested in the well-being of tobacco companies than in the health of the population.

The Swiss Tobacco Prevention Working Group writes in a statement that there are particularly bad marks for the restrictions on tobacco advertising. But there is also room for improvement in other areas. For example, tobacco taxes in Switzerland are too low.

The working group assumes that Switzerland could move up a few places in the rankings if Parliament follows the Federal Council in implementing the “Children without tobacco” initiative. At the top of the ranking are Ireland, the UK and France.
