The second day of the Macron couple’s state visit to the United States ended this Thursday evening with an exceptional meal. Carefully positioned candlesticks, bouquets of red roses, crystal glasses… The Biden administration did not skimp on the means. Europe 1 was able to attend this sumptuous reception.

What better than a dinner to seal a reconciliation? Joe Biden and Emmanuel Macron met for a state dinner on Thursday in the White House gardens on Thursday. A sumptuous reception which has just ended, the high point of this state visit by the French president to the United States. Europe 1 was able to attend.

A royal dinner

The Biden administration has spared no expense. This dinner took place under a huge tent installed on the lawn of the White House but once inside, it was not a tent but rather a pavilion, let’s say royal. Candlesticks were carefully positioned on each oval table, bouquets of red and white roses in the middle of crystal glasses and 350 guests were present, all on their 31.

Tuxedo for these gentlemen, evening dress for these ladies

Brigitte Macron wore a Louis Vuitton dress, while First Lady Jill Biden competed in elegance with an Oscar de la Renta dress. Before tasting caviar and lobster, among other things, the two heads of state, as tradition dictates, each gave a toast. “Vive la France” launches Joe Biden. “Long live the United States, long live France and long live the friendship between our two countries”, answers Emmanuel Macron. A gala evening that ended in music with a few notes from the virtuoso pianist and jazzman Jon Batiste.

In the entourage of the President, everyone welcomes this visit. Joe Biden says he is ready for possible adjustments to satisfy disgruntled allies. “It’s a major step forward”, judges a close friend of Emmanuel Macron. Except that the American president at the same time declared that he did not have to apologize and that he assumes this anti-inflation plan.

Joe Biden also urges Europe to do the same. It is clear that Emmanuel Macron, who had come to seek exemptions for European industrialists, is leaving Washington today without concrete announcements.
