Cannes 2022: Critics’ Week selection with Blanche Gardin, Julianne Moore and Jesse Eisenberg

Cannes parallel section dedicated to first and second films which revealed major names in cinema, La Semaine de la Critique is back for a 61st edition, which will be held in Cannes from May 18 to 26.

Today, Ava Cahen, the general delegate of this section, unveils her rich and promising program, in which we find in particular Blanche Gardin, Julianne Moore, Jesse Eisenberg, Doona Bae, Finn Wolfhard, Laurent Lafitte, Karim Leklou or Paul Mescal. , the star of Normal People.

The Jury of this 61st edition of Critics’ Week will be chaired by Kaouther Ben Hania, a Tunisian director who studied at ACID and the Un Certain Regard section in Cannes and is known for her films Le Challat de Tunis, La Belle et la Meute or again The Man Who Sold His Skin.

To award the Critics’ Week Grand Prize, the French Touch Prize, the Louis Roederer Foundation Prize for Revelation and the Leitz Ciné Discovery Prize for short films, the filmmaker will be accompanied by the Franco-Greek actress and director Ariane Labed , Icelandic director Benedikt Erlingsson, Belgian cinematographer Benoît Debie and journalist-programmer Huh Moon yung, General Delegate of the Busan festival in South Korea.

11 feature films, including 9 first films and 2 second films, and 10 short films were selected. The sublime poster for this 61st edition of La Semaine de la Critique, signed by the Belgian photographer Charlotte Abramow, is a body projection of a photogram from the film Sous le Ciel d’Alice by Chloé Mazlo, which had been selected for the Semaine de la Critique. of Critics in 2020.

Jesse Eisenberg’s first feature film screened at the Sundance Festival, When You Finish Saving The World was chosen as the opening film of Critics’ Week.

Carried by Doona Bae, Next Sohee follows a high school student who chooses a practical vocational training. Hoping to get a good job, she begins training at a call center, but she has to deal with intense pressure from this rapacious business. This situation is too hard to bear for the high school student who dies from it. Inspector Oh Yu-jin, who has something in common with Sohee, is in charge of the case and begins to follow the traces of the causes of her death.
