Cannes 2022: what critical reception for the Palme d’or 2022?

5 years after his Palme d’or for The Square, Ruben Östlund has won a second trophy. With Without Filter (Triangle of Sadness), the Swedish filmmaker fully plays the card of provocation, and inevitably makes critics react. Tweet review.

Did the festival-goers like Without filter, the Palme d’or 2022? Review of tweets posted at the end of the Cannes Film Festival winners which were unveiled last night, Saturday May 28, 2022.

After his Palme d’or for The Square in 2017, Ruben Ostlund achieves a double with Without filter, and wins his 2nd Palme d’or. The Swedish filmmaker pushes the cursor of cynicism even further than in his previous film, in a feature film in three chapters.

The pitch goes like this: After Fashion Week, Carl and Yaya, a couple of models and influencers, are invited on a yacht for a luxury cruise. While the crew takes great care of the vacationers, the captain refuses to leave his cabin as the famous gala dinner approaches. Events take an unexpected turn and the balance of power is reversed when a storm rises and endangers the comfort of the passengers.
