After several rainy days, the return of the sun coincides with the arrival of a host of stars on the Croisette. Mere coincidence? Maybe not. On the competition side, the Cannes Film Festival is already entering its second week.

We did not expect it, but Jennifer Lawrence, dressed in a long red dress, appeared on the steps of the Palais des Festivals. The American is not here as an actress, but as a producer! She supports the documentary Bread And Roses by director Sahra Mani, which focuses on the degradation of women’s rights in Kabul.
DiCaprio declares his love for Scorsese
During the Killers of the Flower Moon press conference, Leonardo DiCaprio indulged in a declaration of love to Martin Scorsese, one of his closest collaborators and friends: “He is someone who is endowed with great perseverance. He always wants, with ferocity, to point out the truth, whether it is ugly, bizarre or uncomfortable. That is where all his art lies.”
“Martin has great respect for the history of cinema, for everything that has been done before him, for all the great directors of the past who made him become the director he is.st,” he concluded admiringly.
La Croisette has fun
Comedy may not be persona non grata at Cannes, but it’s far from over-represented. However, when laughter intrudes on the Festival, the result is often remarkable. As in Omar la Fraise or The Book of Solutions. Presented at the Quinzaine des Cinéastes, Michel Gondry’s new film is also his most personal.
And for good reason: he draws inspiration from his experience and from the moment he decided to retire to his aunt’s Cevennes village to finish a film (L’Écume des jours) that he was struggling to complete. On screen, the filmmaker is embodied by a fiery Pierre Niney, to whom this Book of Solutions owes a lot. Self-portrait who knows how to be critical, the feature film surprises compared to what one can expect from an opus by Michel Gondry. Which signs despite everything a pure comedy, hilarious, and well placed to be one of the comedies of the year.

Guest on the France 2 television news, presented by Laurent Delahousse, actor Harrison Ford delivered a poignant and particularly intense message on global warming. Committed to the environmental cause, the interpreter of Indiana Jones – who came to present the fifth opus out of competition – wanted to recall the importance of science.

Todd Haynes presented, on the evening of May 20, his tenth feature film, May December. This drama with corrosive humor and a cruel tone allows two actresses, recognized worldwide, to deploy once again their great talent: Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore. 2 years after Titanium, here is Stranger!
We discovered her in Titane two years ago, and won a Palme d’Or. Agathe Rousselle, the lead actress in Julia Ducournau’s film, is back in Cannes in the film Stranger. It is precisely a short film, co-directed by Iris Chassaigne and actress and singer Jehnny Beth. A musical film with a dreamlike and fascinating atmosphere. It was presented last night in preview at Critics’ Week.

Yellow, blue and (fake) blood
A woman dressed in a dress in the colors of the Ukrainian flag was evacuated from the steps on Sunday evening. To draw attention to the war in Ukraine, on the red carpet of Cannes towards which all the photographers’ lenses are pointed, this woman spilled (fake) blood on it, as immortalized by this photographer from the AFP.
Interpretation prizes in sight?
Presented in Competition, Firebrand – The Queen’s Game is the new film by director Karim Aïnouz. The latter returns to the story of Catherine Parr, the sixth wife of King Henry VIII. If she manages for the moment to stay the course, she knows that she should not take any risks since the previous wives of the king were either repudiated or beheaded (only one having died following an illness).
With the help of her ladies-in-waiting, she tries to thwart the traps set for her by the bishop, the court and the king… And we can say that the performances of Alicia Vikander and Jude Law deserve great attention from of the Cannes Film Festival jury. Interpretation prizes would be deserved for both.
