Cannes 2023 photos: Virginie Efira lights up the steps, Benoît Magimel and Juliette Binoche feast

This Wednesday, May 24, the French were in force on the red carpet of the 76th Cannes Film Festival. Even when Nanni Moretti presented Vers un avenir radiant, his ninth participation in the Competition, in which we find a certain Mathieu Amalric.

AT See Paris again and Don Juan will succeed Nothing to Lose (unveiled this Thursday May 25 at Un Certain Regard) and Love and the Forests (Cannes Première), a new production by Valérie Donzelli released in French cinemas on Wednesday May 24, when the Cannes audiences discovered this marital drama that turns into a Hitchcockian thriller.

Another period film: La Passion de Dodin Bouffant by Franco-Vietnamese Tran Ahn Hung (Caméra d’Or in 1993 for The Smell of Green Papaya). A feature film served at dinner time where love and gastronomy go hand in hand. No doubt stomachs must have rumbled during the official session.

Two films in 2022 (Revoir Paris and Pacifiction), three in 2023 (Rosalie, Omar la Fraise and, therefore, La Passion de Dodin Bouffant): this year in Cannes, Benoît Magimel is delighting the public with his presence, to whom he has offered a demented performance in the Midnight Session. Winner of the Palme d’Or in 2001, thanks to La Chambre du fils, Nanni Moretti is back in competition for the ninth time in his career. Will he join Francis Ford Coppola, Ruben Östlund, Ken Loach or the Dardenne among the authors of a double? Answer on Saturday during the awards ceremony. In the meantime, the transalpine director has climbed the steps with his muse Margherita Buy, and Mathieu Amalric.
