Cannes Film Festival 2022: a prize will be awarded to the most eco-responsible film

This award is a first in the history of this high mass of world cinema. During the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, the Ecoprod association will award a prize to the feature film that has been produced in the most eco-responsible way possible.

The members of the jury emphasize that all the productions presented at Cannes, all competitions and selections combined, can apply. Several criteria will be taken into account, such as the optimization of transport, the eco-design of the decorations, through the meals offered, or even the control of energy consumption.

The objective of this Ecoprod prize, which will be awarded on May 26, is to make professionals aware of environmental issues in terms of production and “to emphasize that artistic creation and its recognition in the most prestigious festivals are in no way incompatible with a responsible environmental approach.

The association, which has 80 members, including the Canal+ group, one of the founding members, recently conducted a study to assess the annual carbon footprint of the audiovisual sector. And the results are worrying. Each year, the audiovisual sector emits the equivalent of 1.7 tonnes of CO2.

To support artisans of the 7th art towards the ecological transition, Ecoprod offers many free resources and tools on its site such as practical sheets, studies, a carbon calculator, or even an eco-production guide.

As a reminder, the Cannes Film Festival will make its big comeback in the South of France from May 17 to 28. In total, 21 films compete in official competition to win the Palme d’or.
