The board of directors of the Cannes festival elected Wednesday a new president for its annual event: it is Iris Knobloch. Former president of Warner Bros France, the German will take the reins of the festival next year and will thus become the first woman to hold this position.

The festival’s board of directors met on Wednesday to elect who will become the first woman to hold this position. On July 1, she will take the place of Pierre Lescure as president of the festival for a three-year term. This means that it will always be Pierre Lescure who will chair the 75th edition from May 17 to 28.

At the head of an investment company dedicated to entertainment

We know the main lines of the career of Iris Knobloch. She worked for 25 years at Warner Bros France where she notably worked as head of strategy development and execution. She left the group in 2021 and then founded an investment company with the Pinault family and Matthieu Pigasse. This company is dedicated to entertainment and leisure.

To avoid any conflict of interest with this new function of president of the Cannes festival, Iris Knobloch has promised not to invest assets having a link with the festival. According to the magazine The French movieshe might even refuse to invest in the entire film industry.
