With a new wave of young and talented directors, Saudi cinema is booming. During an evening organized at the Cannes festival on May 24, three filmmakers had the opportunity to unveil their short films.
A young, modern and passionate cinema
For five years, a real craze for cinema has been going through Saudi Arabia and many projects have been undertaken by young filmmakers.
Supported by the association Generation 2030Who “aims to bring together young Saudi and French talents from all walks of life”, three directors were invited to the Cannes Film Festival to unveil their short films: VHS Tape Replaced by Maha Al-Saati, Me And Aydarous by Sarah Balghonaim and Othman, by Khaled Zidan.

Organized by Generation 2030 on May 24, the Saudi cinema evening took place on the Croisette and did not fail to attract the attention of film lovers gathered for the Cannes festival!

Following the triple screening, viewers were able to discuss with the three directors, who also took part in a round table. All were moved to see their work welcomed by such success, despite the novelty that Saudi cinema represents for a Western viewer. “Maybe that’s what movies do bestsaid Khalid Zidan for Box Office, introduce audiences to new cultures and communities.”
