Canoe trip by a German family in the Netherlands: Two missing

(dpa) A father and his child are missing and probably drowned, said the coast guard on Thursday evening in Biddinghuizen, the Netherlands. The search was interrupted. The mother and a seven-year-old daughter were said to have been saved. According to media reports, the mother had to be revived.

The police were alerted around 3 p.m. She immediately started the search. The family was canoeing on the Veluwemeer, about 75 kilometers north-east of Amsterdam. The canoe capsized for an unknown reason, as reported by radio station Omroep Flevoland. It was found empty on a small island. The emergency services later discovered the little girl on a buoy, the mother was floating in the water.
